Statistics can be used to analyze a data value with respect to its distribution. To do so, the measures of position can be used.
Measures of position enable us to locate data among the other data in a distribution.
Two of the most commonly used measures of position are the minimum and maximum of a distribution, i.e., the lowest and highest values of a distribution. However, there are also other measures that require slightly more thought from those that use them.
Some of these measures are used by the Ministère de l'Éducation to select groupings for post-secondary education programs.
