Definition

The musculoskeletal system is the set of organs involved in the support and movement of the body. This system includes the skeleton, muscles and joints.

The musculoskeletal system has two functions. First, it’s responsible for support. Without a skeleton, humans would be invertebrates. We would not be able to stand upright and would have to crawl to get around, like earthworms, for example. Secondly, this system allows the body to move. The combined action of muscles and joints allows the body to perform a wide range of movements.
