1The word weeds is used for growing plants that are unwanted.



*Stem vs. stalk
People sometimes use the words stem and stalk as synonyms, but they actually refer to 2 different parts of the plant.
stem | main plant structure, like the trunk of a tree. |
stalk | smaller part that splits from the stem, like a branch of a tree. |

*Kelp is a type of seaweed.
*To plant vs. to sow vs. to seed
The expressions are very similar and often used interchangeably, but they mean slightly different things.
| to plant | You dig a hole in the ground to place something into it (a seed, a bulb or a young tree). The focus is on the individual object. |
| to sow | You scatter, drop or toss (many) seeds on the ground. You can only sow seeds. |
| to seed | You cover an area, a plot of land, with seeds. The focus is on the area, the land. |
