How do you decompose a number?

A number can be decomposed using objects or pictures.

Example of a decomposed number using base 10 blocks.

A number can be decomposed according to the positions of its digits.

Example

2 075 = 2 th + 7 t + 5 o

A number can be decomposed according to the value of each of its digits.

Example

2 075 = 2 000 + 70 + 5

or

2 075 = (2 × 1 000) + (7 × 10) + (5 × 1)

Example

104.32 = 100 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.01 + 0.01

or

104.32 = 100 + 4 + 0.3 + 0.02
