What is measuring a length?
Measuring length means finding its size.
How do I measure using objects?
To measure with objects, always use items of the same size.
- I place the first object at the beginning of the length being measured.
- I place the objects one after the other, without leaving a space, until the end of the length. I must place the objects in a straight line along the length being measured.
- To find the total length, I count the number of objects used.

How do I measure with a single object?
To measure with a single object, move the object, ensuring there are no spaces between the movements.
- I place the object at the beginning of the length being measured. I draw a little line at the end of the object so I know where to place it next.
- I move the object to where I drew the line.
- I repeat step 2 until the end of the length I am measuring.
- To find the total length, I count the number of times I moved the object.

How do I measure a length in centimetres using a ruler?
The longest marks (lines) on a ruler indicate centimetres (cm).
The distance between each of these marks is 1 cm. The numbers indicate the measurement in cm starting at 0.
Some rulers do not have a 0. The first line represents 0.
- I place the ruler along the length being measured. I ensure that the 0 mark is at the beginning of the length.
- To find the total measurement, I look at the line on the ruler where the measurement ends.
