Simple Future—Common Uses

Rules

The simple future verb tense is used to express actions or states that begin and end in the future.

It is formed with will or going to.

 

The simple future is used for:

  1. Promises → using will

  2. Spontaneous actions or decisions → using will

  3. Future facts → using will

  4. Predictions → using will or going to

  5. Plans → using going to

Examples
  1. Promises

A woman giving a gift.

Benita will give a present to her best friend Sarah next week.

  1. Spontaneous actions or decisions

A woman jumping in the air.

As soon as Sarah sees it, she will jump with joy.

Winter Olympics logo.

Italy will host the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

A skier going downhill.

They think Sarah will become a ski champion!

Women packing equipment in a car.
