How to Convert Units of Measure for Time

To convert units of measure for time, it is necessary to understand the relationships or equivalencies between these units of measure.

Convert 424 seconds (s) into minutes (min).

I identify the equivalency between the units of time. For a reminder, I can refer to the concept sheet Units of Time.	60 s = 1 min
Then, I find how many times 60 s (1 min) goes into 424 s. 60 s goes into 424 s 7 times, so there is 7 full minutes (420 s) in 424 s.	60 × 5 = 300 60 × 6 = 360 60 × 7 = 420 60 × 8 = 480
To find the number of remaining seconds, I calculate the difference between 424 s and 420 s.	424 s - 420 s = 4 s

424 s is equivalent to 7 min and 4 s.
